Overview

KER-0193 is a novel, proprietary, orally-bioavailable small molecule modulator of BK channels (large-conductance calcium-activated potassium channels) developed by Kaerus Bioscience. It is designed to address the abnormal function of BK channels linked to the genetic cause of Fragile X syndrome and other neurodevelopmental conditions. By increasing the time these BK channels remain open, KER-0193 reduces neuronal hyperexcitability—a hallmark feature in Fragile X syndrome—potentially easing symptoms such as sensory overload and hyperactive behavior. The drug has demonstrated safety, tolerability, and central target engagement in Phase 1 clinical trials involving healthy volunteers[1][2][5][6].
