Overview

Keragraft is a keratin-based biomaterial developed by KeraNetics, designed to serve as a regenerative scaffold for tissue repair, specifically targeting volumetric muscle loss (VML) and peripheral nerve injuries. The product is composed of purified, human-derived keratin proteins that are processed into a three-dimensional, porous matrix. This matrix acts as a surrogate extracellular matrix (ECM), providing structural support and biochemical cues that facilitate the migration, adhesion, and differentiation of endogenous progenitor cells. Keragraft's mechanism of action leverages the natural biocompatibility and cell-binding motifs, such as RGD-like sequences inherent in keratin proteins, to promote functional tissue regeneration rather than fibrotic scar formation. It has been primarily developed with support from military research programs for the treatment of severe traumatic injuries.
