It typically combines a topical antimetabolite, fluorouracil (5%), with a keratolytic agent, such as urea (often in foam form like Kerafoam 42%). Fluorouracil works by interfering with DNA synthesis, specifically inhibiting thymidylate synthetase, which leads to the death of rapidly dividing dysplastic cells.
