Overview

Kermanian propolis is a natural resinous substance produced by honeybees in the Kerman province of Iran. Its chemical composition is unique to the geographic region and local flora, typically containing a variety of bioactive compounds such as polyphenols and flavonoids. Research has identified Kermanian propolis as a potential anti-tumor agent, particularly in the context of hematological malignancies. It has been shown to induce apoptosis in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cell lines, such as NB4, by modulating the expression of key apoptotic regulators. Specifically, it increases the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, thereby activating the intrinsic mitochondrial pathway of programmed cell death. Additionally, it is being investigated for its synergistic potential when combined with standard chemotherapeutic agents like cytarabine to enhance cytotoxic effects against leukemia cells.
