Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ketalog is a specialized nutritional formulation containing essential amino acids and their corresponding nitrogen-free alpha-ketoanalogues. Developed by Razan Pharmed, it is indicated for the prevention and management of complications related to impaired protein metabolism in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who are following a low-protein diet. Following oral administration, the alpha-ketoanalogues undergo transamination in the body by accepting amino groups from non-essential amino acids, thereby converting into essential amino acids. This process utilizes endogenous nitrogen and reduces the production of urea and other nitrogenous waste products, helping to maintain nutritional status and slow the progression of renal insufficiency without overloading the kidneys.
