Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Ketamine + betaine (KETABET™)** is a patented fixed-dose combination of FDA-approved ketamine, an NMDA receptor antagonist used for anesthesia and emerging in low doses for depression, and betaine anhydrous (CYSTADANE®), a glycine derivative and dietary supplement approved for homocystinuria that acts as a partial agonist at the NMDA receptor glycine site. Preclinical studies demonstrate that the combination produces more robust antidepressant-like effects than either component alone while blocking ketamine's psychotomimetic side effects such as hallucinations, dissociation, and cognitive impairments, potentially via modulation of NMDA receptor function and enhancement of AMPA receptor activity. PharmaTher holds exclusive worldwide rights and plans to develop it as a microneedle patch for remote self-administration with anti-abuse features targeting treatment-resistant depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, neurological disorders, pain, and ketamine use disorders.[1][2][8]
