Drug intelligence / Profile preview
160mg/day Ketamine HCl Prolonged Release is an investigational oral tablet formulation of ketamine hydrochloride, a small molecule N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist. Developed by the University of Southern California, this prolonged-release formulation is designed to provide sustained therapeutic levels of ketamine while minimizing the peak-dose side effects typically associated with immediate-release formulations. It is being evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial for the treatment of chronic pain associated with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). By blocking NMDA receptors, the drug aims to reduce central sensitization and wind-up pain phenomena, which are key pathophysiological mechanisms in CRPS.
