Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Keteling Capsules is a combination traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and pharmaceutical product developed and marketed by Sichuan Defeit Pharmaceutical. It is formulated as oral capsules containing a dry extract of *Ficus microcarpa* (small-leaf banyan tree) and chlorpheniramine maleate. The *Ficus microcarpa* extract provides antitussive, expectorant, and anti-inflammatory properties, while chlorpheniramine maleate acts as a first-generation antihistamine (H1 receptor antagonist) to reduce allergic symptoms and respiratory secretions. The drug is primarily indicated for the treatment of cough, asthma, and cough associated with chronic bronchitis. It is classified as an over-the-counter (OTC) Class A medicine in China and is known to cause side effects such as drowsiness and thirst due to its antihistamine component.
