Drug intelligence / Profile preview
KetoCitra is a medical food developed by Santa Barbara Nutrients specifically for the nutritional management of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). It is designed to be used under medical supervision, typically in conjunction with a ketogenic diet or intermittent fasting. The formulation delivers exogenous beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) to support nutritional ketosis, providing an alternative energy source to glucose, which cyst cells in ADPKD are metabolicly dependent upon. Additionally, KetoCitra contains citrate and an alkaline base consisting of potassium, calcium, and magnesium. These components are intended to alkalinize the urine and increase urinary citrate levels, thereby mitigating the lithogenic risk (kidney stone formation) and potentially slowing the progression of renal cyst growth and kidney volume expansion.
