Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ketineal is a topical triple-action combination cream developed and marketed by Geneith Pharmaceuticals. It contains the super-high potency corticosteroid clobetasol propionate, the azole antifungal ketoconazole, and the aminoglycoside antibiotic neomycin sulfate. This combination is indicated for the short-term treatment of complex, inflammatory skin conditions complicated by secondary bacterial and/or fungal infections, such as severe eczema, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, and various tinea infections (including athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm). Clobetasol propionate acts as an agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor to reduce inflammation, redness, and itching. Ketoconazole inhibits fungal lanosterol 14-alpha demethylase, disrupting ergosterol synthesis and fungal cell membrane integrity. Neomycin sulfate binds to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting protein synthesis and providing broad-spectrum antibacterial activity.
