Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ketophenylalanine calcium is a small molecule calcium salt of the keto-acid analog of the essential amino acid phenylalanine. Developed and manufactured by Hebei Yipin Pharmaceutical, it is primarily used in the management of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and renal failure. The drug functions as a nitrogen-free precursor to L-phenylalanine; upon ingestion, it undergoes transamination by taking up amino groups from non-essential amino acids or nitrogenous waste products like urea. This metabolic pathway allows for the synthesis of essential amino acids while simultaneously reducing the accumulation of urea and other nitrogenous toxins in the blood. It is typically administered to patients on a protein-restricted diet to maintain nutritional status and slow the progression of renal dysfunction.
