Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Ketoprofen + omeprazole** is an oral fixed-dose combination of ketoprofen, a nonselective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, and omeprazole, a proton-pump inhibitor. Ketoprofen reduces pain and inflammation by reversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes and lowering prostaglandin synthesis, while omeprazole irreversibly inhibits the gastric proton pump to suppress acid secretion and provide gastrointestinal protection during necessary NSAID treatment. Modified-release capsule products have been marketed as Axorid and Keithon for symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis in patients with prior or elevated risk of NSAID-associated gastroduodenal ulceration or erosions.
