Overview
Ketoprofen lysinate is a small molecule nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) developed by Sanofi for the treatment of sore throat. It is the lysine salt formulation of ketoprofen, a propionic acid derivative with analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties. The lysine salt formulation enhances the solubility and absorption rate of ketoprofen, ensuring a rapid onset of action. The drug works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which are responsible for prostaglandin synthesis and the subsequent inflammatory response. Ketoprofen lysinate was evaluated in the Phase 3 KRYSTAL (KetopRofen lYsinate Sore ThroAt Lozenges) clinical trial, which investigated the efficacy and safety of 6.25 mg and 12.5 mg lozenges for the relief of throat pain, soreness, and swelling associated with upper respiratory tract infections.
