Drug intelligence / Profile preview
KTL Plus (also known as KTL-Plus) is an ophthalmic combination drug developed and marketed by Sapient Laboratories. It is formulated as eye drops containing the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) ketorolac tromethamine (0.5% w/v) and the fluoroquinolone antibiotic ofloxacin (0.3% w/v). KTL Plus is indicated for the prevention and treatment of bacterial eye infections (such as bacterial conjunctivitis and keratitis) and the reduction of post-operative eye pain, redness, and inflammation, particularly following cataract surgery. Ofloxacin exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and DNA topoisomerase IV, thereby halting bacterial DNA replication and transcription. Ketorolac tromethamine provides analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, which prevents the synthesis of inflammatory prostaglandins.
