Overview

Ketorolac + propofol is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used together, typically in perioperative or procedural settings. Ketorolac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It acts primarily by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis through reversible inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), leading to reduced pain and inflammation[5][8]. Propofol is a sedative-hypnotic agent used for induction and maintenance of anesthesia or sedation. Its primary mechanism involves positive allosteric modulation of the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A (GABA-A) receptor, enhancing inhibitory neurotransmission in the central nervous system[2]. The combination is not available as a fixed-dose commercial product but may be administered together intravenously during procedures to provide both sedation (from propofol) and analgesia (from ketorolac). Clinical studies have shown that this combination can reduce emergence agitation after anesthesia in children[1] and improve recovery profiles during monitored anesthesia care compared to opioid combinations[6].
