Overview

This drug is a combination therapy consisting of intravitreal ranibizumab injections and topical ketorolac eyedrops. Ranibizumab is a monoclonal antibody fragment that inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), thereby reducing abnormal blood vessel growth and leakage in the eye, primarily used to treat choroidal neovascularization associated with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Ketorolac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) administered as 0.45% topical eye drops three times daily, which reduces inflammation by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes and prostaglandin synthesis. The combination aims to enhance treatment efficacy for choroidal neovascularization by supplementing the anti-VEGF effect of ranibizumab with the anti-inflammatory action of ketorolac. Clinical studies have shown that this combination improves best-corrected visual acuity and reduces central retinal or macular thickness more effectively than ranibizumab monotherapy, while also potentially reducing the number of required intravitreal injections over 6 to 12 months without additional adverse effects.
