Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ketovite is a specialized multivitamin supplement system designed for patients on highly restricted therapeutic diets, such as the ketogenic diet, or those with chronic renal failure, galactosaemia, and phenylketonuria. Originally developed by Paines & Byrnes and currently marketed by Essential Pharmaceuticals in the United Kingdom, the Ketovite system typically consists of two distinct components: Ketovite Tablets and Ketovite Liquid. The tablets contain a combination of water-soluble vitamins (B-complex and C) along with vitamins E and K, while the liquid component provides fat-soluble vitamins A and D, as well as vitamin B12 and biotin. This separation allows for precise micronutrient supplementation while avoiding ingredients like sucrose or certain minerals that may be contraindicated in specific metabolic or renal conditions. In pediatric nephrology, Ketovite is used to replace essential vitamins lost during dialysis or restricted due to dietary limitations, although it lacks certain minerals like zinc and copper that are found in newer renal-specific formulations.
