Overview

Keverprazan hydrochloride (formerly known as caprazan hydrochloride) is a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) developed by Jiangsu Carephar Pharmaceutical. It acts by reversibly inhibiting the gastric H+/K+-ATPase (proton pump) in a potassium-competitive manner, providing rapid and sustained suppression of gastric acid secretion. Unlike traditional proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), P-CABs do not require acid activation and can inhibit both active and resting proton pumps, leading to a faster onset of action and more consistent acid control. Keverprazan was approved by the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in 2023 for the treatment of duodenal ulcers and has since been approved for erosive esophagitis (reflux esophagitis). It is also being evaluated in specific populations, including patients with renal insufficiency, to determine appropriate dosing and safety profiles.
