Overview

Kezhi (Compound Methoxyphenamine Capsule) is an oral combination drug developed and manufactured by Changxing Pharmaceutical for the treatment of respiratory disorders. It contains four active ingredients: methoxyphenamine hydrochloride, aminophylline, noscapine, and chlorpheniramine maleate. Methoxyphenamine acts as a β-adrenergic receptor agonist to produce bronchodilation and relax smooth muscle. Aminophylline, a methylxanthine, further relaxes bronchial and pulmonary vascular smooth muscle through adenosine receptor antagonism and phosphodiesterase inhibition. Noscapine serves as a non-narcotic peripheral antitussive, likely acting via sigma-1 receptor agonism to suppress the cough reflex. Chlorpheniramine maleate is a first-generation H1-antihistamine that competitively blocks histamine H1 receptors, reducing allergic symptoms and mucus secretion. The drug is approved in China (国药准字H20020393) for bronchial asthma, wheezing bronchitis, and cough or sputum associated with inflammation of the throat and bronchi.
