KGA2727

KGA2727 is a selective, high-affinity, orally active small molecule inhibitor of sodium-glucose cotransporter 1 (SGLT1). Originally developed by Kissei, KGA2727 suppresses glucose absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, thereby improving postprandial hyperglycemia. In 2006, Kissei licensed the exclusive development and marketing rights for KGA2727 to GSK for global territories excluding Japan, South Korea, China, and Taiwan, while Dainippon Sumitomo Pharma (now Sumitomo Pharma) acquired the rights for Japan. Although KGA2727 demonstrated significant antidiabetic efficacy and cardioprotective effects in preclinical rodent models, its clinical development was superseded by related analogs such as GSK-1614235 (mizagliflozin).
