Overview

KH1230 is a synthetic analogue of 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (calcitriol) developed by Leo Pharma. It is chemically characterized as 20-epi-22-oxa-24a,26a,27a-trihomo-1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3. As a Vitamin D receptor (VDR) agonist, KH1230 modulates gene expression to inhibit the proliferation and induce the differentiation of keratinocytes. It is particularly noted in pharmacological research for its dissociated profile, meaning it retains high potency in regulating cell growth while exhibiting significantly lower calcemic activity (the tendency to raise blood calcium levels) compared to calcitriol. This profile makes it a valuable tool and candidate for treating hyperproliferative skin conditions such as psoriasis. In experimental settings, it is often used to study skin permeability and the efficacy of topical vitamin D delivery systems.
