Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Khaya senegalensis stem bark extract is a botanical extract derived from the stem bark of *Khaya senegalensis* (commonly known as African mahogany), a tropical tree native to West Africa and cultivated in Australia. Traditionally used in African ethnomedicine to treat malaria, fever, jaundice, and infections, the extract has been investigated for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive, and antiplasmodial properties. A patented, standardized preparation of the extract, known as Khapregesic, has been developed by Bioactive Natural Health and is clinically evaluated for the treatment of menstrual pain, premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms, and menopausal symptoms. The extract's therapeutic effects are attributed to its rich content of bioactive secondary metabolites, including limonoids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins, which act synergistically to modulate inflammation and alleviate pain.
