KI-1120 is a sustained-release formulation of flibanserin being developed by Kuhnil Pharmaceutical for the treatment of female hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). Classified as an incrementally modified drug (IMD) in South Korea, it is designed to improve upon the pharmacokinetic profile of the original immediate-release flibanserin, potentially offering enhanced tolerability or a more optimized dosing schedule. Flibanserin functions as a multifunctional serotonin receptor modulator, acting as a 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 1A (5-HT1A) agonist and a 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 2A (5-HT2A) antagonist. By modulating these serotonergic pathways, the drug aims to rebalance neurotransmitter activity associated with sexual desire in premenopausal women.
