Drug intelligence / Profile preview
KI-MSC-PL-205 is an advanced therapy investigational medicinal product (ATIMP) consisting of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) expanded using human platelet lysate. Developed through a collaboration involving Uppsala University and Karolinska Institutet, this cell therapy is designed to modulate the inflammatory response in patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), including cases induced by SARS-CoV-2. MSCs are known for their immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-repair properties, which they exert through the secretion of paracrine factors and direct cell-to-cell contact, potentially reducing lung injury and improving oxygenation in critically ill patients.
