KIB-PCI

KIB-PCI is an inactivated, whole-virion monovalent vaccine developed by Daiichi Sankyo for the prevention of infection caused by the H5N1 subtype of Influenza A virus. Unlike traditional influenza vaccines produced in embryonated chicken eggs, KIB-PCI is manufactured using Vero cell culture technology, which offers a more scalable and rapid production process essential for pandemic preparedness. The vaccine contains inactivated whole virus particles, which typically elicit a broader immune response compared to split-virus or subunit vaccines. It was developed and approved in Japan specifically for national stockpiling to ensure readiness against a potential H5N1 pandemic.
