Kidney stem cell-derived exosomes (KS-Exo) are an exosome-based therapeutic agent derived from adult kidney stem/progenitor cells. These exosomes have demonstrated therapeutic effects in acute kidney injury (AKI) by activating the hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) pathway. This activation promotes tubular epithelial cell proliferation and dedifferentiation, suppresses inflammation, and inhibits cisplatin-induced apoptosis in renal tubular cells. Additionally, KS-Exo have been shown to promote general cell proliferation and adhesion, suggesting their potential for kidney regeneration.
