KIN-CM is a preclinical-stage small molecule Caspase-2 (CASP2) inhibitor being developed by Kintsugi Therapeutics for the treatment of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Caspase-2 is a cysteine protease that plays a critical role in hepatocyte apoptosis, lipotoxicity, and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-mediated lipogenesis, which are key drivers of NASH progression. By selectively inhibiting Caspase-2, KIN-CM aims to prevent hepatocyte cell death, reduce liver inflammation, and inhibit lipid accumulation, thereby halting or reversing the progression of liver fibrosis and steatohepatitis.
