KindaPed

KindaPed is a topical surfactant-based formulation containing 5% w/v 1,2-octanediol (also known as caprylyl glycol) developed for the treatment of active head louse infestation (pediculosis capitis). Originally developed by EctoPharma Limited, the intellectual property rights were subsequently acquired by Thornton & Ross Ltd, who marketed the related product under the brand name Hedrin Treat & Go. KindaPed acts via a physical/mechanical mode of action rather than a neurotoxic chemical mechanism; it disrupts the cuticular lipid layer of the head louse, leading to rapid dehydration and death of the insect. This physical mechanism of action makes the development of insecticide resistance highly unlikely. KindaPed has been evaluated in Phase II/III clinical trials in the United Kingdom, comparing alcohol-containing and alcohol-free formulations, with the alcohol-free mousse formulation demonstrating superior tolerability and fewer adverse reactions.
