Overview
KindaPed AF is an alcohol-free topical lotion formulation containing 5% w/v 1,2-octanediol (caprylyl glycol), developed by Thornton & Ross Ltd (originally developed by EctoPharma Ltd) for the treatment of active head louse infestation (pediculosis capitis). Classified as a CE-marked Class I medical device, KindaPed AF acts as a physical pediculicide rather than a chemical insecticide. Its mechanism of action involves disrupting the cuticular lipid layer of the louse, which leads to rapid dehydration and death of the parasite. Because of this physical mode of action, it is not subject to the insecticide resistance that affects traditional neurotoxic treatments. KindaPed AF was evaluated in a Phase II/III clinical trial in the United Kingdom, which compared its efficacy and safety to an alcohol-containing formulation of KindaPed. Thornton & Ross markets the approved commercial version of this formulation under the brand name Hedrin Treat & Go.
