Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Kisspeptin-13 (KP-13) is an endogenous 13-amino-acid peptide derived from the proteolytic cleavage of the KISS1 gene product (prepro-kisspeptin). It acts as a potent agonist of the KiSS-1 receptor (KISS1R, also known as GPR54), which is a Gq/11-coupled receptor. Kisspeptin-13 plays a critical role in the neuroendocrine regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, stimulating the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which subsequently triggers the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). In addition to its reproductive functions, kisspeptin-13 has been investigated in preclinical research for its roles in glucose homeostasis (where it inhibits insulin secretion), memory consolidation (showing neuroprotective effects against amyloid-beta pathology), and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
