Overview

Kitasamycin is a macrolide antibiotic derived from Streptomyces kitasatoensis. It exhibits broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against a wide range of pathogens, including Gram-positive bacteria, some Gram-negative bacteria, Mycoplasmas, Leptospira, and Rickettsia. Kitasamycin acts as a bacteriostatic agent by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. Its antibacterial spectrum and mechanism are similar to other macrolides such as erythromycin and tylosin. Clinically, it has been used for respiratory tract infections, skin infections, gastrointestinal infections in humans and animals (notably poultry and swine), with particular utility in veterinary medicine for growth promotion and disease prevention[1][2][3][4][5][6].
