Overview

KITCL27 is a small molecule prodrug designed as a pan-inhibitor of class I phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) enzymes, including all members of the PI3K family. It is being developed primarily for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The drug acts by blocking PI3K enzymatic activity, which plays a key role in fibroblast proliferation and tissue scarring associated with IPF. KITCL27 is formulated for inhalation and becomes active only inside target lung cells, minimizing systemic exposure and reducing potential side effects commonly seen with systemic PI3K inhibitors. This targeted delivery aims to restrict anti-PI3K activity to lung tissue, offering significant anti-fibrotic properties while avoiding adverse effects such as alterations in blood glucose levels. Preclinical studies have shown that pulmonary administration of KITCL27 reduces mortality in mouse models of bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis[1][3][4]. It is being developed by Kither Biotech.
