Overview

KITE-439 is an investigational autologous T cell receptor (TCR)-engineered cell therapy developed to target relapsed or refractory solid tumors that express human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16). The therapy involves genetically modifying a patient's own T lymphocytes to express a specific TCR that recognizes the HPV16 E7 peptide (amino acids 11–19) presented by HLA-A*02:01 on tumor cells. This approach enables the engineered cells to selectively identify and kill cancer cells expressing this viral antigen while sparing normal tissues. The product was developed by Kite Pharma in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute and entered phase 1 clinical trials for patients with HPV16-positive cancers such as head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and cervical cancer. Development was discontinued after phase 1[1][2][8].
