Klaricid

Klaricid is a brand name for clarithromycin, a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic manufactured by Abbott Laboratories. It exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby inhibiting RNA-dependent protein synthesis and stopping bacterial growth. Klaricid is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including lower respiratory tract infections (such as pneumonia and bronchitis), upper respiratory tract infections (such as pharyngitis and sinusitis), skin and soft tissue infections, and Helicobacter pylori infections associated with duodenal ulcers. The University of Karachi has been involved in conducting bioequivalence studies comparing the reference product Klaricid with generic formulations like Klaribact (manufactured by Merck) to evaluate comparative bioavailability in healthy subjects.
