KleanLyte

KleanLyte is an osmotic laxative used for cleansing the colon in preparation for colonoscopy. It is an oral sulfate solution (OSS) consisting of a combination of sodium sulfate, potassium sulfate, and magnesium sulfate. Marketed in Canada by Pendopharm (a division of Pharmascience), KleanLyte works by creating an osmotic gradient that draws water into the bowel, thereby increasing stool volume and stimulating peristalsis to clear the colon. It is typically administered as a split-dose regimen. Clinical studies, such as those conducted by the University of Manitoba, have evaluated its efficacy and tolerability specifically in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, comparing it to standard polyethylene glycol (PEG) solutions.
