Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Klebsiella pneumoniae outer membrane vesicle vaccine is an investigational vaccine platform designed to prevent infections caused by the antimicrobial-resistant pathogen *Klebsiella pneumoniae*. Developed by the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute and the University of British Columbia, the vaccine utilizes outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) harvested from clinical isolates of *K. pneumoniae*, such as strains 19-0061 (K24, O2a, ST1537) and 13-2 (KL114, O1ab,2a, ST219). These OMVs naturally present outer membrane proteins and lipopolysaccharides in their native conformation, serving as highly immunogenic antigens. In preclinical mouse models, vaccination with these OMVs has been shown to elicit robust pathogen-specific IgG, IgG1, and IgG2a antibody responses, demonstrating protective efficacy against lethal challenge.
