Overview

JD001 is a lytic bacteriophage belonging to the genus *Jedunavirus* within the *Myoviridae* family, specifically characterized for its ability to infect and lyse *Klebsiella pneumoniae*. Discovered in seawater and genomicly sequenced, JD001 possesses a linear double-stranded DNA genome of approximately 48,408 to 49,482 base pairs. It is being researched as a potential antimicrobial agent for phage therapy, particularly against multidrug-resistant clinical strains of *K. pneumoniae*. The phage operates through a lytic cycle, where it attaches to the bacterial host, injects its genetic material, and hijacks the host's cellular machinery to produce new virions, ultimately resulting in the rupture of the bacterial cell wall and death of the pathogen.
