Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Klein Laxative Tea is a Brazilian phytotherapeutic formulation traditionally used for the management of chronic constipation. The product is a complex mixture of four botanical ingredients: *Pimpinella anisum* (green anise) fruits, *Foeniculum vulgare* (fennel) fruits, *Sambucus nigra* (elder tree) flowers, and *Cassia angustifolia* (senna) flowers. Its primary laxative action is attributed to the sennosides found in senna, which act as stimulant laxatives. These compounds are metabolized by gut microbiota into active rheinanthrones that irritate the colonic mucosa, thereby inducing peristalsis and inhibiting water reabsorption by targeting electrolyte transporters. The anise and fennel components contribute carminative and antispasmodic effects, which help to reduce the abdominal discomfort, cramping, and flatulence often associated with stimulant laxative use. The tea has been evaluated in randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials in Brazil to confirm its efficacy in reducing intestinal transit time and improving evacuation frequency.
