Overview
Klorhex is a chlorhexidine-based antiseptic product line consisting of a gel (1%), rinse (0.2%), and spray (0.2%). It was evaluated by researchers at Marmara University for the treatment of generalized aggressive periodontitis as part of a full-mouth disinfection protocol. Chlorhexidine, the active ingredient, is a bisbiguanide antiseptic that exerts antimicrobial activity by disrupting bacterial cell membranes. In clinical trials, Klorhex was used in conjunction with initial periodontal treatment to reduce periodontal pathogens and modulate inflammatory biomarkers like IL-1β and IL-17 in the gingival crevicular fluid.
