Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Klosterfrau Bronchial-Husten-Sirup is a traditional herbal over-the-counter (OTC) medicine developed and marketed by MCM Klosterfrau. It is primarily indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with acute bronchitis and bronchial coughs characterized by excessive mucus production. The active constituent is a fluid extract of thyme (*Thymus vulgaris* L. and/or *Thymus zygis* L.), which contains essential oils such as thymol and carvacrol. These components exert secretolytic effects by thinning bronchial mucus to facilitate expectoration and provide bronchospasmolytic activity to reduce coughing fits. As a traditional herbal medicinal product, its use is based on long-standing experience in herbal medicine rather than modern clinical trial data.
