Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Klosterfrau Hustensaft is a traditional herbal over-the-counter (OTC) cough syrup developed and marketed by MCM Klosterfrau. The primary active ingredient is a fluid extract of plantain herb (*Plantago lanceolata*). It is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with dry cough and irritation of the oral and pharyngeal mucous membranes. The mechanism of action is primarily physical; the mucilage contained within the plantain extract forms a protective film over the irritated mucosa, which soothes the tissue, reduces the cough reflex, and protects against further external irritation. As a traditional herbal remedy, it is widely used in the consumer health sector for respiratory support.
