Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Klosterfrau Melissengeist is a traditional herbal medicinal product developed and manufactured by MCM Klosterfrau. It consists of an ethanolic distillate of 13 medicinal herbs, with lemon balm (*Melissa officinalis*) as the primary component. Other ingredients include elecampane, gentian, angelica, ginger, cloves, galangal, cinnamon bark, cinnamon flowers, nutmeg, black pepper, cardamom, and coriander. It is widely used in German-speaking countries as an over-the-counter (OTC) remedy for a variety of ailments, including gastrointestinal discomfort (such as bloating and flatulence), nervous tension, sleep disturbances, and symptoms of the common cold. The product can be administered orally or applied topically to relieve muscle pain or tension. It is classified as a traditional herbal medicine rather than a modern pharmaceutical drug candidate, and it has been marketed for over a century.
