Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Klosterfrau Reizhusten Lutschtabletten Orange is an over-the-counter herbal medical device in lozenge form designed to relieve dry, irritant coughs. Developed and distributed by MCM Klosterfrau Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH, the product contains a natural herbal complex consisting of marshmallow root extract (Eibischwurzelextrakt) and carrageen, a polysaccharide derived from red algae. Its mechanism of action is primarily physical and mechanical; upon dissolution in the mouth, the lozenge releases its active ingredients to form a protective mucilaginous film that coats the irritated mucous membranes of the throat and pharynx. This barrier shields the airways from further external irritation, effectively soothing the cough reflex and calming the respiratory tract. The lozenges are sugar-free, lactose-free, and feature a liquid center with an orange flavor. The product is indicated for use in adults, adolescents, and children from six years of age.
