Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Klothonova is a preclinical **encapsulated cell therapy** being developed by Avaí Bio and Austrianova through their 50:50 joint venture Klothonova for age-related diseases and broader anti-aging or longevity applications. The product uses Austrianova's Cell-in-a-Box technology to microencapsulate genetically modified cells engineered to overexpress and continuously secrete **alpha-Klotho**, a protein associated with organ protection and longevity biology. The intent is durable in vivo delivery of alpha-Klotho after implantation of biocompatible microcapsules while helping shield the producer cells from immune rejection, with proposed applications across cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, neurodegeneration, osteoporosis, cancer, and related age-associated conditions. The program is reported to be in preclinical development, with GMP master cell bank production initiated in 2026.
