Overview

KLS-116 is a preclinical-stage systemic antibiotic being developed by MetalloBio for the treatment of complicated bacterial infections. It is the lead candidate from the company's Series 1 compounds, which are based on a novel ruthenium-nitrogen complex platform. The drug features a modular design built around an inert metal ion core and exhibits a multi-modal mechanism of action with at least two distinct killing activities. This unique approach is designed to provide high potency against pathogens while eliciting minimal emergence of resistance. MetalloBio was spun out from the University of Sheffield in 2021 to commercialize this inorganic chemistry-based antimicrobial technology.
