KLYX

KLYX is a dual-action laxative enema developed by Ferring Pharmaceuticals, indicated for the symptomatic treatment of constipation, faecal impaction, and for colon evacuation prior to medical procedures. It is a combination drug containing docusate sodium and sorbitol. Docusate sodium functions as an anionic wetting agent and stool softener, reducing surface tension to allow water and salts to penetrate and soften hard faeces, and also exhibits stimulant activity. Sorbitol acts as an osmotic laxative, drawing water into the distal large bowel lumen. This synergistic action softens stools, promotes defecation, and facilitates bowel cleansing. KLYX is administered rectally and typically produces an effect within 5 to 20 minutes.
