KMY is an investigational small molecule drug developed by the Lei Yunshang Group, a prominent Chinese pharmaceutical company. It is designed as a potent inhibitor of the urate transporter 1 (URAT1), a protein encoded by the SLC22A12 gene that is responsible for the reabsorption of uric acid in the renal tubules. By blocking this transporter, KMY aims to increase the renal excretion of uric acid and thereby lower serum uric acid levels in patients suffering from hyperuricemia and gout. As of early 2024, KMY is in Phase I clinical development, with studies focused on evaluating its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic profile in healthy volunteers through single-ascending dose (SAD), multiple-ascending dose (MAD), and food-effect cohorts.
