Overview

KN1102 is an investigational chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) natural killer (NK) cell therapy developed by Changzhou No.2 People's Hospital for the treatment of relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. The therapy utilizes NK cells engineered to express a CAR that incorporates the extracellular domain of the NKG2D receptor. This allows the CAR-NK cells to recognize and bind to NKG2D ligands (such as MICA, MICB, and ULBP proteins), which are frequently overexpressed on the surface of malignant plasma cells in multiple myeloma. Upon binding to these ligands, the CAR-NK cells are activated to exert direct cytotoxic effects against the tumor cells. As an allogeneic cell therapy approach, KN1102 aims to provide a potent anti-tumor response with a potentially improved safety profile and greater accessibility compared to traditional autologous CAR-T cell therapies, which are often limited by impaired T-cell function in heavily pretreated patients.
