Overview

The study was a randomized, double-blind, prospective trial designed to compare the efficacy of two distinct pharmacological agents: ketorolac tromethamine (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or NSAID) and triamcinolone acetonide (a corticosteroid). These injections were administered for the treatment of pain and functional impairment in patients with various musculoskeletal conditions, including knee arthritis, shoulder arthritis, shoulder impingement, meniscus lesions, and rotator cuff tears. Ketorolac functions by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. Triamcinolone acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, providing potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects within the joint space.
