Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Kneipp Arnika Salbe S is a topical herbal medicinal product (phytomedicine) developed and marketed by Kneipp GmbH. The active ingredient is an oily extract derived from *Arnica montana* flowers, standardized at 10 g per 100 g of cream and extracted using refined sunflower oil. It is indicated for the external treatment of blunt traumatic injuries and their consequences, including bruising (hematomas), sprains, contusions, and fracture edema, as well as rheumatic muscle and joint complaints and inflammation resulting from insect bites. The therapeutic efficacy of the product is attributed to the anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties of arnica constituents, particularly sesquiterpene lactones such as helenalin. Kneipp Arnika Salbe S has been evaluated in Phase 4 randomized clinical trials comparing its safety and efficacy to topical ibuprofen (Ibutop Creme) for acute blunt impact sports injuries.
